One of our original members, Riaz Ali, is leaving us to take a firefighter job in Mobile, Alabama. I received this email from him Saturday morning at 1:00 am:
So I’ve got some sad news. I am moving to Alabama today. I got a phone call early Thursday morning for a Firefighter Paramedic job with the Mobile Fire department. My Fire Chief told me that I had to be in Mobile, Alabama by Monday if i wanted to accept the position! So, I packed up my bags and I am driving to Alabama today. I’m currently in Gallup, New Mexico. This was extremely short notice and I had literally one day to pack and leave. I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to start a full time firefighting job with such great pay.
I wanted to thank you guys for everything. I think it was about two years ago now that you guys came out to my fire house and explained the benefits of crossfit. The workouts were brutal even for a bunch of firefighters. I enjoyed watching the gym grow from a garage, to a half gym/half tool shed, to the gigantic gym that it is today. I used to work out at 24 hour and it was pretty hard to drag my lazy ass into the gym. At ARCFIT you guys built an awesome environment for everyone to share. When I wake up in the mornings I’ve had the same routine for quite some time now…. turn my alarm off, take a sip of water, then pick up my phone to see what brutal WOD spilt out of Chad’s muscle brain. I don’t think I’ve looked forward to going anywhere on a regular basis as much as I look forward to going to crossfit.
Thank you guys for all the great workouts and good times these past two years. My goal is to go to Alabama, find a crossfit gym, stay committed, get some great fire experience with Mobile fire department, then hopefully transfer back to California in two years. I’m sure the box will be around in another two years so I’ll make it in there when I come back to visit. So hopefully I’ll be back one day.
Thanks for everything and let everyone know I said PEACE and I’ll miss the box!

It’s funny how the decisions we make can so drastically and rapidly change our lives. We’re happy for you and wish you the best out in Mobile. Keep monitoring our site and check in with us from time to time if you can. Once you get established out there we’re going to need a photo of you on duty! Thanks for the kind words regarding the gym-you were a part of what made ARCFit the place it is today. Hopefully the 42″ box won’t get dusty while you’re away. Safe travels, good luck and we’ll see you down the road. Christian

If you haven’t signed up for Fight Gone Bad yet, what are you waiting for? Good friends, a good workout, three great charities, and barbecue and beer afterward. September 25th at the box and everyone who wants to can participate (scaling is definitely an option)! Let’s ramp it up these last few weeks an donate some serious cash to these wonderful causes…

Congrats Ali!
