March is well underway and we have a few new introductions that are in order. As many of you know by now, we have some new interns helping out at the box. They are Darrell, Lei and Connie. We’ve also added another coach to our staff that I will profile later in the week. Coach Ryan is overseeing the internship program and has asked each of them to write three posts for the ARCFit blog. Connie has been shadowing our coaching staff for the longest and is coming along quite nicely, look for her to be taken over her own shifts real soon. She kicks things off with her first blog post below.
Hi ARCFitters!
My name is Connie Luu, and you might have already heard Ryan refer to me as “Intern” around the box. I want to begin by thanking all of the members at ARCFit for your patience and kindness as you allow me to be a part of your daily WOD and experience in the the box thus far. I appreciate everyone’s support and willingness to let me learn from you and grow as a CrossFit coach.
It has been an amazing journey so far, and this is just the beginning, which is the most exciting part of it all! Within the last month of interning, I have discovered so many things unconsidered as an athlete but what is so normal for a coach at our box. I will admit that I love the challenge of learning these finer points and details of coaching to make CrossFit everything it can be for you.
I started CrossFitting back in Aspen, Colorado, in December of 2011. I had recently moved back home from San Diego and was looking for something to get me back into shape for hiking and the ski season. Naturally, one of my friends told me all about CrossFit (as we do best). I was intrigued, so I dropped in and fell in love. I was incredibly inspired by my Coach, Erik Larson, who taught me how to transcend all of the things that I learn in CrossFit into my everyday life. As I spent more time at the box, I realized that I wanted to inspire others just as he inspired me. I wanted others to tap into their bodies and fight through the voices and things that tell us “no” and scream for us to “stop,” and find beauty in that fight.
ARCFit has been the next stepping stone for me as an athlete. I am so appreciative for all of the coaches and members who welcomed me into your community when I moved here in July of last year. I have seen the most PRs, physical changes, and mental awareness in myself through ARCFit, and I’m grateful to call everyone here my friends.
INSPIRE is what I strive to do here at ARCFit as a coach. SHARE my strengths and experiences with you and FIGHT through every WOD by your side. My goal at ARCFit is to continue to grow as a coach and grow with you as athletes. I am no veteran at this game, but I strive to learn the most that I can to make us a better box, better athletes, and better supporters of each other.
It’s not too late to register for the CrossFit Open! Coach Ryan and I will be paying up on our bet today at 4:00 pm if you want to come and watch us suffer. As it stands now we have 44 people signed up for Team ARCFit, not including Ry and I. At 10 burpees per person, we owe 440 burpees!! Yikes. 3, 2, 1…Go time!
So proud of you Connie!!
