Coach T’s Choice
ARCFit sent three teams down to Moxie Madness this past weekend, one each in the Rx, Novice and Masters Division. This by far had to be one of my most enjoyable and memorable experiences with CrossFit competition! I was so impressed with how hard each and every teammate competed and the way in which they represented ARCFit!
The Rx team of Gy, Lei, Jay, and Ryan, the Novice team of Connie, Kalie, Leojo and Pogue, and the Masters team of Mel, T, Fire Steve and me, left everything they had at Spartan Stadium. I was so proud of each and every one of your efforts, and the support that you showed for your teammates!
First off, the Rx team had the daunting task of going up against some of the biggest and strongest gyms in NorCal. There was no back down from them whatsoever and you could see them really work together nicely. From Jay’s (the American Psycho) 20# snatch pr, to Ryan consistently putting up near bodyweight push jerks, to Lei overcoming her nerves to string together big reps of 95 # ohs, and finally, to my girl Gina, for returning to competition after a 2+ year lay-off and having a baby! She showed that old Gy grit and determination, constantly pushing through the pain, culminating with her getting her first ever bar muscle-up! An awesome show and a 28th place finish overall!
And then there was the Novice team that was completely unfazed by the challenges of the weekend. They just went out and did work! Each athlete picked up the other during workouts and they were a true “team”. This wasn’t any more exemplified than in the final two workouts of the day, as Leojo tore his hands to shreds on the c2b pull-ups, Pogue dug deep and powered through the squat ladder, Connie calmly and efficiently moved through the shoulder to overhead, and Kalie put that barbell overhead and refused to drop it during the OHS. The Novice team put together amazing performance after amazing performance and battled right to the end, just missing a podium spot. They ultimately finished 5th place out of 30 teams! Bad ass!
And finally, there was our Master’s team, aka Team Motrin. We came into this competition battling several injuries and with a rookie competitor. That didn’t matter as we refused to let each other fail. Melissa (she sweats glitter) came in with a torn quad and having never competed, and completely rocked the house! How inspiring is 50 yards of one-legged lunges? Fire Steve gratiously stepped in for Domingo and was a seamless fit for the team. His attitude of “whatever you need me to do guys” was perfect, and his effort on the final workout as he battled through the final 15 OHS was freakin awesome! And finally, there was T, sucking up what most likely will be diagnosed as a rotator cuff tear, absolutely killing it all weekend. It was her work in the final event that solidified Team Motrin’s final ranking. How about starting with 30 OHS’s by yourself and then rolling from there? Beast! And what was that final ranking you ask? How does first place sound baby! That’s right, Team Motrin, the ARCFit Masters team brought home the champion’s trophy!
And what can I say about the Orange Crush cheering section?! We were by far the loudest, most suppportive group at the competition! You guys kept us going the entire weekend and your efforts did not go unnoticed. Ask any one of our competitors and you will get the same answer, there is no way we finish where we did without you guys! A HUGE THANK YOU!
Hopefully this event inspired some of you to train even harder and to test yourself in an upcoming competition. For me, I need more advil and the hot tub!
Love this ARCFit Fam!
