Once again, TJ Belger of TJ’s gym(s), put together an amazing weekend of competition for the 40+ athlete at the 3rd annual NorCal Masters. The venue was fantastic, the weather gorgeous and the vibe was all about friendly competition among the older CrossFit population. How old? The event had age groups going all of the way up to an over-60 division! Watching these more senior athletes get after it was truly inspiring. I hope I’m still doing pull-ups in my 60′s!
As for our girls, both T and Laura D came to represent ARCFit and did not disappoint. One thing that you can say with conviction about these two women is that they know what it takes to compete!! Both of them worked their way through 6 workouts over two days that challenged them in a variety of ways and there was no backing down and no quit. Laura took first place in a WOD on Saturday that involved toes to bar and burpees and T pulled off two 3rd place finishes on Saturday to keep herself in contention for the finals. Ultimately, Laura finished 17th and T cracked the top-10 with a 7th place finish against an extremely talented group of women. I’m very proud of both of you.
(Inserted commentary from Theresa) A HUGE congratulations goes out to Christian for his own inspiring performances during the two-day competition. He went into the finals ranked #3 and held his own on the squat snatch/muscle up ladder for a 3rd place podium finish. Not sure of my favorite moment, as I watched Christian tear up the competition; fighting his way through the last 50m of bear crawls (with Kat’s encouragement front her “front row seat”) on the tough chipper, his unbroken set of 100 double unders at the end of the 6th WOD to solidify his dominance or his constant composure after he was robbed on a 120# weighted pull-up! Regardless, his athleticism, competitiveness, fighting spirit, and sportsmanship is certainly something we can all learn from. ~T
As usual, the ARCFit Orange Crush support crew was in full effect cheering on our athletes. This was a long two days of competition and you guys definitely helped us through. Can’t wait to ride this wave into the SacTown Throwdown next weekend. Go team ARCFit!
