DIRTY LARRY

I started doing CrossFit at the garage gym in December of 2008.  At this time I thought I was in decent shape…man was I wrong. My first workout of 3-5 rounds of 10 box jumps, 15 push ups, 10 sit ups, and 10 squats had me ready to throw up.  However, after this first day I was hooked.  Since starting CrossFit, I have completed my first half marathon, marathon, and ultra marathon, and a couple of CrossFit competitions all with strength of body and mind.  CrossFit has improved my life on many planes.  I feel like I am in overall better physical shape and definitely in a better mental place as well. I am studying exercise science at CSUS with plans on continuing on to Physician’s Assistant school.  Before starting at American River CrossFit, I was on a somewhat unhealthy path in life.  I drank too much and I ate terrible foods.  With the help of the original trainers and support of the “cougars”, this all changed.  I started eating better and training my butt off and dropped 30 lbs in the first 6 months.  Also, being terrible at every barbell oriented movement, I was forced to literally start at square one with Chad and Christian.  But it is because of this lack of knowledge and ability that I feel that I have become such an interested and versatile trainer.  I truly feel that I can understand where clients of all backgrounds and experience levels are coming from.  I love to train people with all backgrounds but especially love working with people wanting to run.  Running has become one of my most enjoyed past times and I look forward to sharing my ideas with you on how to incorporate CrossFit training with your endurance training.

Certifications and Training:

  • Level 1 CrossFit Trainer Certified
  • USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach Certified
  • American River 50 mile Endurance Run-2011

RYAN

As a life long athlete, student and mentor, I have always worked towards improving the lives of the people with whom I associate. Growing up, I was always involved in team sports, whether it be swimming, soccer, cross-country, track or martial arts.  While attending California State University Sacramento, I swam competitively for the American River College team, as well as the club team at CSUS.  Curious about Mixed Martial Arts, I discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo, two arts which I spent countless hours eagerly studying technique and body movement.  While training for Jiu Jitsu competitions such as the 2008 Pan American Championship, I was introduced to CrossFit.  After graduating from CSUS in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in History, I earned my Aerobics and Fitness Association of America Certified Personal Trainer Certificate.  By this time, I was actively studying CrossFit.com and the CrossFit Journal.  Using the CrossFit method, I started training clients in February 2010.  In December 2010, I received my CrossFit Trainer Level 1 Certification.  I recently started the process to take the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer test while contemplating which CrossFit seminar to attend next.  I welcome the opportunity to use my skills as an athletic trainer to help people improve their lives by using the CrossFit method as a foundation to build their temple upon.
