I know we have quite the social group here at ARCFit and that is awesome. However, we need to be careful that these social get togethers at the box are not affecting our classes. Our hourly sessions are crowded and the acoustics in the gym are not great, which magnifies the noise and makes it hard on our coaches to teach and our athletes to learn.
First off, if you’re not in the class that is training at that time, there is no need to be on the floor. Please take your conversation outside or into the kids room. I’m specifically addressing those of you that are showing up 30-60 minutes before your training time (stay off the boxes/mats/etc). Unfortunately, our box isn’t big enough to have a group of people carrying on a conversation on the same floor where other athletes are training. Those of you who arrive a few minutes prior to your class to get in some foam rolling or extra stretching may do so but please find a spot out of the way and keep the chatter to a minimum.
Secondly, your class starts at the top of the hour. Not 5-10 minutes before that. This is especially true when people are still working out. Please respect the class ahead of you and wait until everyone has completed their WOD. After that, you may ask the coach if you can come on to the floor and start to loosen up. It is extremely rude to start warming up or setting up your station while the previous class is still on the floor. Don’t do it.
With the above in mind, we have an On-Ramp session beginning tonight at 7:00 pm. I’d like to continue to run Open Gym and the On-Ramp classes concurrently but this is not an option if the noise can’t be contained. That means you Open Gym folks will need to come in and do your thing while being mindful of the new folks. No music, no loud conversations, etc. Just do work. If you guys/gals can’t handle this and the coach on duty finds your presence to distracting, then we will have to cut out Open Gym during our On Ramp classes. Again, this is something I don’t want to do but if we can’t maintain an environment that allows our new members to learn without distraction, then I will be forced to.
What makes our box so cool is that we have group of individuals that like to hang out, train hard and have fun. I’m not trying to kill that vibe at all. However, we need to make sure that everyone who walks through our doors has the same opportunity to better themselves every day. Thank you for your understanding and consideration. Please email me if you have any questions.
